Hi-Cap Test Prep Packages - FAQs

Gifted Education is program specially designed to challenge and promote the learning for the students who have been identified as “Gifted” (intellectual ability significantly higher than average students compared to same age and class group).

These programs are often called Gifted Program, Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), Talented and Gifted Program (TAG) etc. Gifted programs vary greatly across United States and often determined by the state and individual school district.

Most of the school districts within United States offer some kind of Gifted education or program below are some of the commonly found gifted programs

  • Enrichment Program: Here gifted students are given challenging assignments more tailored to their aptitude.
  • Gifted Classroom: Here gifted students are placed in a smaller group setting which is under special curriculum and is taught by specially trained teachers.
  • Accelerated Program: As part of this program gifted students are allowed to skip to higher grade to keep them challenged in their learning.

We recommend you look at your school district to identify which gifted program is being offered.

National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) provides the details on state by state offered Gifted Programs (https://www.nagc.org/gifted-state)

Since the federal government does not provide specific requirements for gifted education programs it is up to the state and in some instances districts to manage their Gifted Program. The states/district can choose from various assessments to identify the gifted students. We recommend you check with your school district to confirm which assessments do to take.

Some of the common assessments are:

  • CogAT: Cognitive Ability Test (add hyperlink to CoGat page)
  • NNAT: Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test
  • ITBS: The Iowa Test of Basic Skill
  • OLSAT: Otis-Lennon School Ability Test, Eight edition
