The Canadian Cognitive Abilities Test (CCAT) serves as a cognitive assessment widely utilized for admission into gifted programs across Canada. Published by Nelson Education, the CCAT 7 stands as the latest version of this examination as of 2024.
Aligned with the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) in the United States, the CCAT comprises three distinct sections, referred to as batteries: the Verbal Battery, Nonverbal Battery, and Quantitative Battery. Schools or teachers administering the test have the flexibility to conduct these batteries separately or collectively, based on specific requirements. The CCAT is administered to students spanning grades K-12.
Due to its comprehensive nature, the CCAT is a lengthy examination, often conducted in separate testing sessions or even on different days. Administration times may vary, typically allotting students between 30-45 minutes for each battery. Taking into account administration time, completing all three batteries generally takes two to three hours. The total number of questions in the CCAT ranges from 118 to 176, depending on the grade level.
